Climate Action

Advancing Sustainable, Low-Carbon Solutions for a Resilient Future

At ACEECA, climate action drives our vision of resilient communities and sustainable ecosystems across Kenya. Anchored in our Strategic Pillars and guided by the ACEECA Theory of Change, we implement data-driven, inclusive, and scalable interventions to address climate risks, enhance adaptation, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our work aligns with Kenya's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and global commitments under the Paris Agreement, supporting local, national, and regional climate objectives.

Our Key Focus Areas

Climate Resilience & Community Adaptation

Mitigation & Low-Carbon Solutions

Research, Data & Climate Policy Advocacy

Community Engagement & Public Awareness

Climate Resilience & Community Adaptation

ACEECA empowers communities in Nairobi, Meru, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Nyeri, and Taita Taveta counties to anticipate, prepare for, and respond to climate shocks. Through capacity-building workshops, climate risk assessments, and community-led adaptation projects, we strengthen local resilience and reduce vulnerability to extreme weather events.

Mitigation & Low-Carbon Solutions

We promote sustainable, low-carbon solutions across energy, agriculture, and waste management sectors. By advancing renewable energy adoption, energy efficiency, and circular economy practices, ACEECA contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while supporting sustainable livelihoods.

Research, Data & Climate Policy Advocacy

Leveraging the ACEECA Knowledge Bank, our Research & Data Insights initiatives provide actionable climate data and evidence to policymakers, civil society, and private sector partners. This ensures that decision-making is informed, evidence-based, and aligned with national and international climate commitments.

Community Engagement & Public Awareness

Inclusive climate action is at the heart of our work. ACEECA ensures that women, youth, and marginalized groups actively participate in climate planning and solutions. Through public awareness campaigns, community dialogues, and participatory governance, we amplify local voices in shaping climate-resilient futures.

Flagship Programmes

School Greening Programme

We integrate climate education with practical environmental action in schools, enabling students to plant trees, establish school gardens, and participate in renewable energy projects. This programme nurtures the next generation of environmental stewards and instills sustainable practices from an early age.

Community Reforestation & River Rehabilitation

ACEECA partners with local communities to restore degraded landscapes, protect watersheds, and rehabilitate rivers, ensuring ecosystem health, biodiversity conservation, and water security.

Climate-Smart Agriculture & Farmer Education

Through the Farmers Digital Market and targeted capacity-building, we support climate-smart agricultural practices, helping smallholder farmers adapt to changing weather patterns while improving productivity and livelihoods.

Our Approach

ACEECA applies a holistic, Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) framework to ensure interventions are effective, scalable, and sustainable. Cross-cutting principles—including digital transformation, gender equality, and community governance—guide all projects, ensuring measurable impact and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 13: Climate Action.

By uniting science, policy, and local knowledge, ACEECA drives transformative climate solutions that protect ecosystems, empower communities, and foster a low-carbon, climate-resilient Kenya.
