Overview
ACEECA (African Centre for Environment, Energy & Climate Advocacy) is a Kenyan non-governmental organization dedicated to advancing environmental conservation, clean energy access, and climate change resilience. Registered under the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act of 1990, we work to strengthen sustainable development pathways in climate-vulnerable rural communities, with a deliberate focus on children, youth, women, and Persons Abled Differently.
Our motto — Informed Action for a Sustainable Kenya — reflects our commitment to translating research, data, and community knowledge into measurable and lasting impact.
Mission, Vision & Values
Our Mission: To advance inclusive, evidence based and locally driven solutions at the intersection of environmental protection, climate action, clean energy and climate governance. ACEECA works to strengthen institutional capacity, empower vulnerable populations and accelerate the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through measurable, community centered impact.
Our Vision: A climate resilient and environmentally sustainable future where communities thrive in harmony with nature, clean energy is accessible to all, and inclusive climate governance ensures that no one is left behind.
Our Core Values: Sustainability and Stewardship, Equity and Inclusion, Evidence and Accountability, Partnership and Collaboration, Innovation and Adaptability, Integrity and Good Governance.
Governance & Leadership
ACEECA is committed to the highest standards of institutional governance, ethical leadership, and accountability. Our governance structure ensures strategic oversight, effective management, responsible resource utilization, and measurable impact aligned with national and global development priorities. The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership and fiduciary oversight, while the Executive Leadership Team implements strategy, programs, and operations. Our leadership principles include accountability, transparency, inclusion, and integrity.
Our Approach
ACEECA delivers sustainable climate and environmental solutions through an integrated, inclusive, and results oriented approach. Our methodology combines scientific evidence, community leadership, institutional strengthening, and strategic partnerships. We apply systems thinking, evidence based programming, community led development, climate resilience, policy engagement, and strategic partnerships to achieve long term impact.
Theory of Change
Our Theory of Change is grounded in a clear premise: When communities are equipped with knowledge, clean energy technologies, sustainable land management practices, and inclusive governance systems — and when policy decisions are informed by credible research and field data — environmental degradation can be reversed, emissions reduced, and climate resilience strengthened. By connecting local action with policy engagement and data-driven insights, ACEECA ensures that interventions are measurable, scalable, and aligned with national and global climate priorities.
Strategic Pillars
- Environmental Protection: Ecosystem restoration, wetland conservation, indigenous tree and bamboo landscape rehabilitation, and sustainable land and water management.
- Climate Action: Climate-smart agriculture, emissions reduction strategies, adaptation planning, and resilient value chain development.
- Clean Energy & Low-Carbon Solutions: Clean cooking technologies, decentralized solar energy access, and community-based renewable energy enterprises.
- Climate Advocacy & Governance: Inclusive climate education, policy engagement, and evidence-based advocacy informed by field data.
Transparency & Accountability
ACEECA upholds the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct. We maintain robust governance systems, financial controls, and reporting mechanisms to ensure responsible stewardship of resources. Our accountability framework includes clear separation between governance and management, results based planning, internal controls, regular audits, and stakeholder feedback mechanisms.
