As the world marks the International Day for Biological Diversity on 22 May 2026, communities, organizations, and governments are being called upon to take local action to protect ecosystems and reverse biodiversity loss. This year’s theme, “Acting locally for global impact,” highlights the power of community-led environmental action in building a more sustainable and climate-resilient future.

ACEECA, in partnership with the River Gituma community, planted 5,000 climate-resilient trees on 15 April 2026 to restore degraded riverbanks in Tharaka Nithi County. The initiative promotes ecosystem recovery, strengthens community resilience, and advances sustainable, nature-based solutions to climate change.
