ACEECA Participates in Mazingira Day Celebrations to Promote Urban Greening and Environmental Stewardship
Nairobi, Kenya — October 10, 2025: The African Centre for Environment, Energy and Climate Advocacy (ACEECA) joined hundreds of environmental champions, community groups, and government agencies in marking these year’s Mazingira Day celebrations in Nairobi. The annual event, commemorated under the theme “Citizen-centric tree growing and environmental stewardship,” brought together diverse stakeholders for a city-wide clean-up and tree planting campaign across the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
The day began with coordinated clean-up activities in major Downtown Streets within the city, demonstrating a shared commitment to reducing waste and promoting sustainable urban living. Volunteers, youth groups, private sector representatives, and civil society organizations participated actively in the exercise, reflecting the growing momentum around environmental consciousness in Kenya’s capital.

The celebrations culminated in a symbolic tree planting ceremony at the Grogon Globe, which underscored the need to restore Nairobi’s green cover and enhance urban resilience to climate change. Through the initiative, participants planted indigenous tree species in selected areas, reinforcing the message that environmental restoration begins with individual and collective action.
Representing ACEECA at the event, the organization’s delegation emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing urban environmental challenges such as pollution, poor waste management, and declining green spaces. “Sustainable cities begin with clean, green, and inclusive environments,” said ACEECA Chief Executive Officer. “By taking part in Mazingira Day, we reaffirm our commitment to driving community-based action and fostering climate-conscious urban development.”

Mazingira Day, commemorated annually, serves as a national call to action for citizens to take responsibility for their surroundings and adopt eco-friendly practices in daily life.
Through its continued participation in such initiatives, ACEECA strengthens her mission to promote environmental conservation, climate resilience, and community-driven solutions for a sustainable future. ACEECA remains steadfast in supporting government and grassroots efforts to protect Kenya’s ecosystems, green its cities, and empower citizens to be stewards of the environment.
